Stripping paint from parts on a sprue

I have a kit that I am working on and I have painted several of the parts while still on the sprue.  After posting another question on here I realize that I should have primed the parts before I started painting them.  IS there a solution I can soak the sprues in to remove the paint.  Should I just get some paint thinner and set them in that for a few minutes?  Will that damage the plastic at all?
