Scuderia Toro Rosso chief, Franz Tost, has revealed that his happy with performances of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne so far in 2012.
The rookie pair replaced Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi for the current season, and have only netted the Italian outfit a combined six points.
Ricciardo made his debut in 2011 with HRT, whereas Vergne is enjoying his first taste of F1 action, and the pair have looked, at times, impressive.
“So far I must say that both of them are highly skilled and both of them, so far, have shown good performance.” Tost told the official Formula One website.
“Daniel scored points in his first race for us in Melbourne, when he finished in P9 and Jean-Eric finished P8 in Sepang, which showed that there is a lot of potential. The progress that both are making is quite promising, so I have to say that so far we are satisfied.”
Despite some exciting displays from their young drivers, Toro Rosso currently sit three places from the foot of the Constructors’ standings, and whopping 38 points behind eighth placed Force India.
However Tost believes his drivers are finding their feet at the pinnacle of motorsport, and that the fans will see the real Toro Rosso in the second half of the season:
“Both now have a bit more experience, they know the team better, the car better and the weekend procedure, so now I think it is up to us, the team, to provide them with a good car and make a step forward with new upgrades. Then I am convinced that we – hopefully – will have a successful second half of the season.”
Vergne and Ricciardo sit 17th and 18th respectively in the Drivers’ Championship, ahead of all six Caterham, HRT and Marussia team members, who have yet to register a point.
