Fernando Alonso has suggested that he wants Felipe Massa to stay with Ferrari for next season.
The Brazilian has been under intense pressure this year, with the Scuderia rumoured to be growing more and more frustrated by his lack of pace.
Massa’s performances have improved recently, but some areas of the media believe it may be too little too late.
Massa is said to be keen to stay on, which would be welcomed by Alonso:
“In my opinion we need to have a driver that respects Ferrari and the tradition of this team and that we work for the team and the red cars. This is the first priority.” Alonso told BBC Sport.
“And second I have been working with Felipe three years now and (we have) a good relationship.
“If the team decide to change Felipe, whoever (comes in) has to be better than Felipe.”
Nico Hulkenberg, Paul di Resta and Michael Schumacher have all been linked with the seat for next season, but Alonso appears to prefer the prospect of continuing to race alongside Massa:
“Of the names that have been written I don’t know if they have written with the head or with the heart.
“I don’t know if you (can) compare what Felipe did in F1 with what they did…”
