Lewis Hamilton secured his fifth pole position of the 2012 season, as he overcame Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel at the Marina Bay Circuit.
The Brit’s time of 1.46.362 was enough to secure pole position, with Pastor Maldonado, his closest competitor, 0.442 seconds behind.
Vettel and Jenson Button will occupy the second row of the grid in third and fourth rspectively, with Championship leader Fernando Alonso behind them in fifth.
Paul di Resta, Mark Webber, Romain Grosjean, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg completed the top ten for Sunday’s race.
The usual suspects were joined by Kamui Kobayashi in exiting qualifying in Q1, with the Sauber man complaining of massive over-steer.
Bruno Senna had another run in with the barriers in Q2, ending his hopes of a solid grid position, and he was joined by Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen in failing to make Q3.
Many predicted a straight shootout between Hamilton and Vettel for pole, but Maldonado broke up the pair to add to his fantastic qualifying displays this season.
With pole position often being a deciding factor in Singapore, it would be foolish to bet against Lewis Hamilton getting his second win on the bounce.
