Fernando Alonso believes the team needs to improve the F2012 car in order for him to continue his pursuit of the Drivers’ Championship.
The Spaniard saw his lead cut to 29 points at the weekend, as Sebastian Vettel took the top spot on the podium.
The progress of his rivals appears to be worrying Alonso, who said he expected more from the car heading into the Marin Bay Circuit challenge:
“We need to improve the performance we saw here,” Said Alonso.
“We struggled all weekend.
“Honestly, before arriving in Singapore, I expected more,
“I think we were not very competitive this weekend.”
However, the 31-year-old also saw the positives, as his closes rival heading into the weekend, Lewis Hamilton, failed to finish:
“Of the four or five (championship) contenders, we lost points with one, with the other three we increased our advantage.”
Team boss Stefano Domenicali agrees with his driver that the outfit must improve, but also believes progress cannot be instant:
“Having said that,
“we mustn’t overreact as it’s better to bring a few updates that work rather than bringing too many.”
