Lewis Hamilton’s rumoured switch to Mercedes could be on the rocks, as the German outfit are reportedly in the process of agreeing a 2013 deal with Michael Schumacher.
The veteran racer’s current contract expires at the end of the 2012 season, but reports from German newspaper Bild say that negotiations for next year are “in full swing.”
Any deal between the 43-year-old and his current team would seemingly clear up any speculation, as teammate Nico Rosberg’s services are already secured for 2013.
There is some speculation that Rosberg may move in the opposite direction if Hamilton agrees a deal to join the team, but with the Brit holding out for an annual wage in the region of €25m, an agreement is some way off.
Despite the reports, the carmaker’s Motor Racing President Norbert Haug played down speculation, hinting that any conclusion is some way off:
“There is still no decision. We are continuing to negotiate.”
