McLaren team principle, Martin Whitmarsh, is adamant that there is no void between the team and Lewis Hamilton after the driver’s twitter gaffe last weekend.
The 27-year-old is said to have angered his employers by tweeting sensitive telemetry data that, reportedly, fell into the hands of rival outfit, Red Bull.
Hamilton was forced to remove the offending status, but it was rather of case of locking the gate, after the horse has bolted.
Despite the delicate nature of the issue, Whitmarsh believes that there is no ill feeling between Hamilton and McLaren:
“It was embarrassing for Lewis I think, and I’m sure he will learn from that,” he told Sky Sports.
“But it hasn’t driven a wedge (between Hamilton and the team), I’ve known Lewis since he was 11 years old.
“He’s someone who has grown up in the team, he’s grown up in the glow of public criticism. Some things he has learned, some things he is yet to learn.
“He is a deep and soulful individual, but he is going through a difficult time (given the death of a close aunt last week).
“I predict he is going to bounce back and we will see a different Lewis Hamilton in a few days’ time in Italy.”
Hamilton crashed out of the Belgian Grand Prix, after he was caught in a tangle with Romain Grosjean at the first corner.
